My name is Stephanie Burns and I have been a Cashier here at Cornish’s for almost 12 years.

I have many responsibilities here at Cornish’s. I make donuts on my morning shifts and prepare lunches when I’m asked. I also put in some orders. I also do daily things as well when I’m not waiting on customers, such as making candy bags, filling up the coolers with either pop or milk or I stack up the shelves with products. I love my job here at Cornish’s. I love talking to all our customers. We have some of the loveliest customers you could ask for – always with a smile on their faces.

The store is unique in the sense that it’s been in the same location for over 100 years. And it stayed in the same family for over 100 years! You hardly see or hear stories like this.

Working here at Cornish’s and with Ola has been nothing but a joy. Ola is a wonderful boss and businesswoman. Since she bought the store, she has created a website for the business, and she developed a weekly menu that she puts up on our Facebook page or our Instagram page. She has also created Cornish’s T-shirts, Cornish’s canvass bags, and Cornish’s hoodies. Ola is a wonderful woman. She has such a kind soul and a heart of gold. She greets everyone with a smile, and she always greets us every day with a good morning or good afternoon. Ola always asks about our family or grandkids. I couldn’t have asked for a better boss or a friend like her. Ola has a dream she has set for herself, and I know she will accomplish it. She is always working to make Cornish’s a better store for our community. I was very pleased when she shared the news of her nomination for the “2023 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards”, and I would like to say she is deserving of the award. Ola is a hardworking businesswoman, mother, wife, and boss.

Worry can weigh a person down, but an encouraging word cheers a person up. 'Cornish’s Cheer' hopes to be an encouragement to people who are under pressure, feel lonely, discouraged, or rejected. I hope these writings impart cheer, and hope and help you flourish with patience, love, and sincerity. Be encouraged and cheered. Also, practice 'speaking' positive affirmations, which can be a powerful tool to help boost confidence.
